Established in 1809, our bookstore proudly holds the distinction of being the oldest independent bookstore in America, a place where generations of readers have discovered ideas, stories, and inspiration. Today, we’re looking for the right person to help carry that legacy forward.
We are seeking a Store Manager who is experienced in retail and is deeply passionate about books, community, and preserving something truly special.

Responsibilities
- Lead and supervise all bookstore operations, including staffing, sales, and customer service initiatives
- Manage inventory levels through purchasing, stock replenishment, and inventory control strategies to maximize sales and minimize losses
- Oversee cash handling, cashiering, POS (Point of Sale) systems, and daily financial reconciliation to ensure accuracy and accountability
- Develop merchandising plans to enhance product displays, promotional activities, and store layout for optimal customer engagement
- Recruit, train, and develop team members in retail sales techniques and customer service excellence
- Implement and conduct regular training & development sessions to foster team growth
- Coordinate marketing efforts to promote store events, new releases, and community outreach initiatives
- Maintain store cleanliness, organization, and safety standards
- Utilize retail math skills for budgeting, pricing strategies, sales management, and performance analysis
- Handle customer inquiries with professionalism via phone etiquette and in-person interactions
- Manage scheduling shifts efficiently while ensuring high levels of customer satisfaction during peak hours
Requirements
- Management or assistant manager experience in retail environments with supervising responsibilities preferred
- Strong leadership skills
- Excellent communication skills
- Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to multitask effectively under pressure
- Customer service-oriented mindset with excellent phone etiquette and interpersonal skills
- Ability to manage time efficiently across shift management tasks while maintaining attention to detail
- Able to troubleshoot, research, and implement self-guided solutions
- Must be able to lift up to 30 lbs and perform tasks that require some manual labor.

- Commensurate with experience and negotiable, with performance bonuses added
