Backlist Book Swap

Right after lunch we are going to do a Backlist Book Swap. Everyone who participated in this at Winter Institute had so much fun we thought we’d try this at All About the Books.

Please bring a copy of your favorite in-print, backlist title – preferably paperback. It can be fiction, non-fiction, adult or children’s. Place a shelf-talker card, perhaps your store bookmark, in the book stating the title/author/your name and store name, and a brief reason why you love this book. We’ll provide the space and organization for the sharing.

Best Ideas of the Year Roundtables

Please come prepared to share the very best of what we’ve done in our stores this past year. To jump start your thinking:
Store:

-Staff/Owner perks and training (attending ABA and NEIBA educational opportunities)
-Bottom line initiatives (inventory control; product mix such as more non-book)
-Physical changes (upgrades; fixtures; merchandising improvements)
-Operational changes (dealing with ARCs, staff picks, customer service)
-Social media, publicity, advertising and marketing

Customers & Community:

-Events (adult, children’s, self-published/local authors, authorless, off-site)
-Social Media
-Loyalty Programs
-Community Outreach (including business-to-business)
-Independent Bookstore Day, Indies First, Shop Small Saturday, etc
And any wild ideas that just worked.
