CONNECTICUT

Bank Square Books, Mystic CT – www.banksquarebooks.com
Bank Square Books in Mystic, CT, will be participating in the Connecticut Independent Bookstore Day Passport, plus highlighting authors from local independent publisher Homebound Publications for a book signing from 1 to 3 p.m. We will also have a free coloring table, where kids can color a drawing of our bookstore by local artist Elizabeth Jancewicz, and we will be doing random giveaways throughout the day.

The Hickory Stick Bookshop will be celebrating with refreshments, giveaways, and fun activities throughout the day. The bookshop will also be hosting various local authors as guest booksellers throughout the day!
If that’s not exciting enough for you, you can celebrate your local indies on Independent Bookstore Day by participating in the Connecticut Passport! Visit all 17 participating bookstores over the weekend to win a Passport Prize, a 20% coupon from each store (some exclusions apply), and be entered into a Grand Prize raffle. Five (5) people will be drawn at random to win a Grand Prize of a $50 gift card from EACH store!
The Hickory Stick Bookshop will also offer exclusive day-of merchandise created especially for Independent Bookstore Day by major publishers and authors. MAINE

Bogan Books, Fort Kent ME
Bogan Books Is thrilled to host Independent Bookstore Day! We will have book specials, giveaways, a Sesame Street themed photo booth, refreshments and we will have a special Sesame Street guest! A community poetry collective chapbook, exclusive to Bogan Books, will be launched on this day with poetry contributions from community members on reflections on the waterways of the area.

Devaney Doak & Garrett Booksellers in Downtown Farmington, Maine will be celebrating with Desirable Giveaways, A History of DDG Quiz, and A Compelling Raffle. “Though it is true that every day is Independent Bookstore Day it is even more true on April 27th,” says DDG Owner Kenny Brechner.

As part of Independent Bookstore Day An Unlikely Story, Plainville MA will host a fundraiser for the Binc Foundation! At the event, authors, publisher sales reps, and independent booksellers from MA, RI, and CT will go head to head in a game show-style trivia contest. Join in the fun and cheer everybody on!
Proceeds from the general admission tickets and the cash bar will go to Binc. An Unlikely Story will also provide complimentary snacks, so come out to support a great cause, mingle with authors & booksellers, and generally have a fabulous time! Tickets

We are co-supporting the Newburyport Literary Festival that day, which features dozens of authors from around the New England region and the United States. It also keeps us very busy. We will be raffling off ARCs for new and returning subscribed customers!

Book Fishing: This will be book fishing’s third year in Booksmith’s IBD celebrations – customers drop a fishing line behind the great blue curtain and reel up a free book from the $1 section of the Used Book Cellar. Everyone’s a winner!

“Photo Booth”: We will have a suspended frame and a table full of literary props (Sherlock Homes hats and pipes, Harold’s Purple Crayon, etc) for literary themed photo ops.

Costume Contests: Anyone who visits the store in literary costume on IBD will be entered to win one of three prize baskets – one curated from the Sci-Fi section, one from the Kidsmith, and one by the curator of our Transnational Literature Series.

This year for Independent Bookstore Day, Buttonwood Books and Toys has invited ten local independently published authors to present their books during the day. There will be two groups of five, each with a mix of children’s, fiction, nonfiction, memoir, and poetry. We are also planning on raffles, refreshments, and game demos.

Harvard Book Store will be showcasing our favorite books from independent presses (New Directions, Graywolf, Coffee House, Grove, and more!) in a special bookseller-curated display, collecting our customer’s love notes to bookstores, releasing a brand new Harvard Book Store tote bag with a design by local artist Susan Coyne (to be revealed), and selling reading journals made on our very own book-printing robot, Paige M. Gutenborg. Plus balloons!

Join us on Saturday, April 27th for Independent Bookstore Day! We will be licking off the day at 11:00 am with authors Adam Abramowitz signing copies of his new book, A Town Called Malice and Dale T Phillips will be signing copies from his Zach Taylor mystery series; both will be with us until 1:0pm. At 2:00pm, we will be celebrating the launch of Michael C Keith’s newest book, Stories in the Key of Me. Food & drink will compliment his reading and signing. Michael will be with us until 4pm. Porter Square Books is the first stop on one of the trolley routes, so readers taking the trolley tour will get a tour of the offices and a goodie bag on their way to the trolley. At 11AM there will be a special IBD storyhour with Daniel Haack reading from his new picture book Maiden & Princess. Our second annual Great Bookseller Bake-Off will be from 2PM-4PM. Booksellers will compete against each other with their favorite recipes from their favorite cookbooks. The winner will be chosen by your votes. We’ll also have a number of bookish games and activities available throughout the day, and, of course, all of the great IBD exclusive items.

The Silver Unicorn Bookstore is very excited to be hosting Ali Benjamin to talk about her new book, The Next Great Paulie Fink, at 2 pm on Independent Bookstore Day. Follow the Cape Cod & Islands Bookstore Trail to discover a treasure trove of new and used bookstores from Sandwich to Falmouth to Provincetown, Martha’s Vineyard to Nantucket.

The program will launch on Independent Bookstore Day, Saturday, April 27 and continue throughout 2019.  The goal of the Trail is to highlight the unique and diverse array of independent bookstores on Cape Cod and the Islands.

20 independent bookstores (and counting!) will participate in the Trail, including  Books By the Sea in Centerville, Booksmith/Musicsmith in Orleans, Brewster Bookstore in Orleans, Bunch of Grapes Bookstore in Vineyard Haven, East End Books in Provincetown, Eight Cousins Books in Falmouth, A Great Yarn in Chatham, Herridge Books in Wellfleet, Isaiah Thomas Books & Prints in Cotuit,  Main Street Books in Orleans, Market Street Bookshop in Mashpee, Mitchell’s Book Corner and Nantucket Bookworks on Nantucket, Parnassus Book Service in Yarmouthport, Provincetown Bookshop in Provincetown, Reed Books in Harwich Port, Titcomb’s Bookshop in East Sandwich, Wellfleet Booksmith in Wellfleet, Where the Sidewalk Ends Bookshop and Children’s Annex in Chatham and Yellow Umbrella Book in Chatham.

People who visit 5 or more stores during 2019 will be given a Cape & Islands Bookstore Trail button.

Many of the participating bookstores will offer light refreshments, and some will have special events planned Independence Bookstore Day on April 27.

Trident is celebrating Independent Bookstore Day with a jam-packed day full of literary events! During the day, the Metro Boston Bookstore Day Trolley will be rolling through, where they’ll be awaited by a complementary mimosa. Then throughout the afternoon, we’ll play host to FIVE local authors who will meet-and-greet customers and sign books (more information about the authors HERE.) We’ll round out the evening with an author event with Diane Wald, author of the forthcoming Gillyflower (more info HERE) and Literary Trivia hosted in our second-floor cafe space at 7pm (more info HERE.)

Independent Bookstore Day is a one-day national party that takes place at indie bookstores across the country on the last Saturday in April. Rhode Island bookstores will be celebrating all day on April 27, and you’re welcome to join us. Pick up a Rhode Island passport at any of the participating stores, and visit 14 of the 15 participating stores to win prizes and be entered to win one grand prize!

Spring into story time at 11 a.m. with spring themed stories and activities. There will be a store wide scavenger hunt from 1-5 with prizes! From 5-7 enjoy snacks and drinks while you go on a blind date with a book. You can even take one home with you. And, David Norton Stone, author of Lost Restaurants of Providence, recounts the restaurants that still hold a place in the hearts of locals at 7 p.m.

To celebrate the Indie Spirit, the Norwich Bookstore will participate in the nationwide Independent Bookstore Day (IBD), Saturday, April 27, from 9 am – 6 pm.

9 am: Books and literary gifts — pins, pouches, cards — created specifically for IBD will be unveiled!

2 pm: We are delighted to welcome two local authors who write for middle-grade and middle school readers! Both have new novels that portray teens working through tough transitions with family and friendships. The authors will read and talk about their books and are happy to answer questions and sign copies.

Jo Knowles – Where the Heart Is tells the story of 13-year-old Rachel who is struggling to understand how to adapt to the complications of her family’s changing circumstances and a friend who would like to be more. Jo Knowles lives with her family in Hartland and is the author of seven other acclaimed novels for young adults including Jumping Off Swings.

Lindsey StoddardRight as Rain, Lindsey Stoddard’s second novel, follows 12-year-old Rain as her world is turned upside-down following the accidental death of her brother. Lindsey grew up in Norwich and currently lives with her young family in northern Vermont.
