Business Training Manager Full-Time

MTW seeks a business oriented, highly motivated, and detail-oriented manager to lead a team of 5-6 youth employees to manage their own retail and online used bookstore and community space.  This position requires an individual with prior retail experience (bricks and mortar, as well as on-line retail), a commitment to working directly with youth and a track record of motivating and supervising a team to establish and meet high performance standards.  As with any retail enterprise, this position will require flexible scheduling and direct work with customers and suppliers. 

The Business Training Manager must be a high-energy person who enjoys teaching others, hitting goals, and working in a fast-paced environment during evening and/or weekend hours.  A successful candidate will have exceptional communication, and a sensitivity for MTW’s diverse constituencies.  Great customer-service, technological aptitude and a willingness to be accountable for the business are keys success! Education and Employment Manager

More Than Words (MTW) seeks an Education and Employment Manager with a strong background in promoting post-secondary and career access for high-risk youth. This position is responsible for designing and implementing services to support youth to make a successful transition to post-secondary education and/or employment. This position is responsible for working directly with youth participating in the core programs of MTW, as well as following up and serving youth during a 6-12 month period following successful completion of the MTW program.  During the follow up period, the Education and Employment Manager will work with graduates to map concrete and measureable education and employment plans, to support youth to achieve their goals, to track their progress and to maintain their engagement with the MTW community. 

In addition to working directly with youth, the Education and Employment Manager is responsible for representing MTW to the community and for building and enhancing strong partnerships and collaborations with corporations, educational institutions and other community partners to generate education and employment opportunities for MTW graduates.  As MTW is committed to using data to improve performance and results, the Education and Employment Manager is responsible for accurate and timely data tracking and for incorporating data inquiry as a critical learning tool to improve practice and programs

Bookseller - Odyssey Bookshop in South Hadley, MA

Odyssey Bookshop in South Hadley, MA, is looking for a full time bookseller and an administrator for our store's First Edition Club.  The successful candidate must be an avid reader of contemporary literary fiction, have a disciplined mind with a knack for organization, and a reasonable knowledge of Excel. Additionally we need somebody  with excellent orthographic skills who is able to write and communicate well via email, who can find the Zen in repetitive tasks, and enjoys playing well with others.

Bookselling can be challenging sometimes, both mentally and physically. If you are not ringing up sales for customers, you might be dusting shelves, vacuuming floors, shelving and alphabetizing books, calling customers, moving heavy (35-50 lb.) boxes of books, arranging cards gifts into attractive displays, moving bookcases, and setting up chairs for author events.

This is a full time position with some benefits, such as a significant staff discount, all of the publisher advance reading copies you can carry, and being able to rub elbows with some of the most exciting authors writing today.  Starting salary is $10-12/hour, depending on experience.  Actual schedule is TBD but expect to work at least one night per week and some weekends.

Bookseller/Buyer - part-time

New bookstore & café looking to hire booksellers!

It is an exciting time for An Unlikely Story as we begin our search for part-time booksellers. We are looking forward to hiring enthusiastic readers to bring books and people together in a warm and welcoming environment devoted to great books, good food and inspiring conversations.

It is important to us not only that we have the right people in the right position but that the booksellers be able to function seamlessly together and be committed to creating a fun, engaging and friendly environment for our customers and for each other.  Bringing books and people together in an engaging atmosphere is very rewarding.  Yet, working in a bookstore is not for everyone.
