Annie Philbrick has always been an avid reader.  With two other women, she bought Bank Square Books in Mystic, CT in June 2006 and assumed the role of adult book buyer and event planner.  Annie has been to two Winter Institutes, one on a scholarship from Beacon Press in Boston, and has served on the NEIBA Advisory Council for two years.  Annie lives in Stonington, CT with her husband, Ben and their four kids, some who have flown the coop. She is a graduate of Middlebury College, and enjoys gardening, yoga, rowing on the cove by her house, traveling and, of course, reading.

Lisa Sullivan is the owner of Bartleby’s Books in Wilmington, VT. Lisa also operated The Book Cellar in Brattleboro, VT, which was destroyed by fire in April 2011.  Both stores have a long history, The Book Cellar was founded in 1948 and Bartleby’s in 1989. Lisa became a bookseller in 2004, leaving a career in technology marketing to enter the book world and return to her English major roots.  She is active in her community, currently serving as the President of the Mount Snow Valley Chamber of Commerce.  Lisa and her husband Phil live in Wilmington with their two children, Ally and Zach.

Michael Herrmann is the owner of Gibson’s Bookstore, the oldest independent bookstore in New Hampshire (founded in 1898.) He bought the bookstore in 1995, and expanded it in 1998, adding a café. He is an avid reader and is actively trying to instill that trait in his teenagers. His wife Becky is the library director in Chelmsford, MA, so there is no escape from literature in his family. Michael served a term on the NEIBA Advisory Council & one year as a NEIBA Board Director.

Josh Christie started his career in bookselling in 2004, working as a frontline bookseller at Sherman's Books and Stationery in Camden, Maine. While he is still working for Maine's oldest bookseller (Sherman's opened in 1886), he now hangs his hat at Sherman's of Freeport. Though he spends most of his time on the floor selling books, Josh also is a book buyer and event planner for Sherman's. Returns, inventory, promotions, remotes, training, accounting - if it's a task at the bookstore, Josh has done it. An avid outdoorsman, he also writes skiing and hiking columns for the Maine Sunday Telegram. In his free time, Josh hosts the Bookrageous podcast with a revolving cast of booksellers, book bloggers and authors. He served on the NEIBA advisory council, and was the 2010 recipient of NEIBA's Rusty Drugan Scholarship for Emerging Leaders.

Sarah Galvin is the co- owner of The Bookstore Plus.  She bought the business with her husband, Marc, in 2007 from Sarah’s parents who originally opened the store in 1973.  Sarah literally grew up in The Bookstore Plus, but didn’t enjoy reading until she entered college.  Now her favorite aspect of the job is handselling to customers and leading the stores weekly Monday storytime.  She does all the children’s buying, but also gets help from her four year old daughter Norah.  Sarah has served on the NEIBA advisory council since 2010. She loves to read, hike, bike, run, ski, and play with her two Springer Spaniels.

David has been working with independent bookstores in the Northeast since 2003, after beginning his publishing career at several university presses including Yale. He joined W.W. Norton in 2005, first as the NY Metro sales rep before moving up to New England in 2009. He is currently serving as the BPRNE Secretary, and also is a member of the NEIBA Advisory Committee. He and his wife Erica--whose honeymoon included a stop at the NEIBA 2010 Fall Conference - lives in Cambridge MA.

Carole Horne is General Manager of Harvard Book Store in Cambridge. Her entire bookselling career has been at Harvard Book Store, where she began working in 1974, and was head of merchandising with overall responsibility for buying until 2007. Active in the bookselling community, she was the President of the New England Booksellers Association from 1995-97. She also served on the Board of Directors of the ABA, on its Strategic Planning Committee and its Industry Advisory Council. She recently served as the treasurer of the New England Booksellers Association, and on its strategic planning task force. She loves literary fiction, narrative non-fiction and essays, science, mysteries, and cookbooks.
