Suzanna Hermans is a second generation bookseller and co-owner of Oblong Books & Music in Millerton & Rhinebeck, NY, which was founded by her father, former NEIBA President, Dick Hermans, in 1975. Though  Suzanna is a true general bookseller, her heart belongs to children's and YA books, and she recently served  as co-chair of the New England Children's Booksellers Advisory Council. As a passionate advocate for the freedom to read, she currently sits on the Board of Directors of the American Booksellers Foundation for Free  Expression. Suzanna has a BA in Theatre Arts from the University of Iowa.

Susan Mercier is the manager/buyer at Edgartown Books, one of two independent bookstores on the island of Martha’s Vineyard. Retail, especially bookselling, has long been Susan’s passion as well as her work, starting with jobs at stores in New York City and Boston and now at the island bookstore, where she has worked for 11 years. She has been very active in ABA and NEIBA, serving on both organizations’ advisory councils, and in the Vineyard community, where she has been on the school committee for eight years. She lives on Martha’s Vineyard with her husband, an island native and bank officer, and really misses her three daughters, all of whom have left the nest.

Josh Christie has been a bookseller at Sherman's Books and Stationery for nearly a decade. Josh started at Sherman's Books' Camden, ME location in 2004, and has been at Sherman's in Freeport, ME since 2008. Though he spends most of his time on the floor as a frontline bookseller, Josh also assists in book buying, event planning, and other work for all four Sherman's locations. Returns, inventory, promotions, remotes, training, accounting - if it's a task at the bookstore, Josh has done it. He served on the NEIBA advisory council, and has served two terms (one appointed, one elected) on the NEIBA board. Josh was the 2010 recipient of NEIBA's Rusty Drugan Scholarship for Emerging Leaders. An avid outdoorsman, he writes skiing and hiking columns for the Maine Sunday Telegram, and serves on the Board of Directors for the Eastern Ski Writers Association. His first book, Maine Beer: Brewing in Vacationland, was published in 2013.

Anne DeCourcey is a New England Sales Representative for HarperCollins Publishers. The seeds of her book passion were sown by her mother who owned Pinocchio Bookstore for Children. Anne preceded Nan at NEIBA, producing the holiday catalog and membership communications, was the field rep for Penguin in the Southwest, a phone rep for W.W. Norton, and the trade sales director at Gibbs Smith prior to moving back east to be close to family and rep for Harper. She is happiest when surrounded by books and booklovers. Anne reads middle grade novels, cookbooks, and fiction--mostly literary, but also smart commercial novels. When Anne travels, her husband Ted, a former fly-fishing guide, tends their two adolescent children whose loves include books, dogs, and Minecraft.

Sarah Galvin is the co- owner of The Bookstore Plus.  She bought the business with her husband, Marc, in 2007 from Sarah’s parents who originally opened the store in 1973.  Sarah literally grew up in The Bookstore Plus, but didn’t enjoy reading until she entered college.  Now her favorite aspect of the job is handselling to customers and leading the stores weekly Monday storytime.  She does all the children’s buying, but also gets help from her four year old daughter Norah.  Sarah has served on the NEIBA advisory council since 2010. She loves to read, hike, bike, run, ski, and play with her two Springer Spaniels.

Michael Herrmann is the owner of Gibson’s Bookstore, the oldest independent bookstore in New Hampshire (founded in 1898.) He bought the bookstore in 1995, and expanded it in 1998, adding a café. It is expanding again in late summer 2013.  He is an avid reader and is actively trying to instill that trait in his teenagers. His wife Becky is the library director in Chelmsford, MA, so there is no escape from literature in his family. Michael served a term on the NEIBA Advisory Council & one year as a NEIBA Board Director, as well as serving as NEIBA Treasurer for two years.

Carole Horne is General Manager of Harvard Book Store in Cambridge. Her entire bookselling career has been at Harvard Book Store, where she began working in 1974, and was head of merchandising with overall responsibility for buying until 2007. Active in the bookselling community, she was the President of the New England Booksellers Association from 1995-97. She also served on the Board of Directors of the ABA, on its Strategic Planning Committee and its Industry Advisory Council. She recently served as the treasurer of the New England Booksellers Association, and on its strategic planning task force. She loves literary fiction, narrative non-fiction and essays, science, mysteries, and cookbooks.
